The Cradle of Liberty. The Hub of the Universe. The Athens of America. These are big words for a moderately small city. But Boston lives up to them. With its rich history, expansive architecture and world-renowned academic and cultural institutions, the city sustains and radiates the glory it has acquired over the last four centuries. Brimming with New England pride, but containing a down-to-earth attitude, it's a city that defies stereotype because it consists of many different layers. Boston is compact, culturally rich, and can largely be explored on foot.
Some people consider Boston's character much like that of London. This is certainly true for its melting pot of history and grace. With 600,000 residents, Boston is a modern and fashionable city that has it all: shopping centers, films, people, nightlife and plenty of unique Boston activities. Harvard University is just across the river in Cambridge. On the 4th of July, Boston celebrates with a day of music, fireworks and food!
There's much to be seen in Boston. For art lovers, a walk down Newbury Street reveals tucked away art galleries, which feature the local artists' work. A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in the Fenway section of the city is great for a look at more wonderful paintings. Quincy Market is a must do for visitors to the city of Boston, as well! Created from historic buildings, it's full of fine shops and restaurants as well as talented street performers. Don't miss North End.
